Team building

Team building has increasingly taken the limelight in corporate planning and in organizational seminars. It is evident to companies both large and small, localized and distributed, that a strong team that can work well together is critical to the success of the company. However, building a strong team is not as easy as it sounds. It is not just about bringing the best people together, but also getting them to interact closely together to bring the best out of everyone. As Henry Ford famously said, “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” To succeed, a team leader needs to understand the personalities of each and every team member. He needs to know how to gel them, how to stimulate good ideas from them, how to encourage collaboration amongst them. Some of these have been highly researched, tried and tested. Below are some recommendations, in short and digestible TED talk formats:

1. Tom Wujec – Build a tower, Build a team

2. Howard Rheingold – The new power of collaboration

3. Steven Johnson – Where good ideas come from

4. Rachel Botsman – The case for collaborative consumption

5. Baba Shiv – Sometimes it’s good to give up the driver’s seat

6. Clay Shirky – Institutions vs Collaboration
